Shelly Morgan - Artist profile

When I was growing up in Leeds, West Yorkshire, I had the opportunity to nurture my creative side studying textiles and print, typography and even a little architecture, continuing my studies I moved to Oxfordshire when I was 18 and after receiving my degree in Graphics & Illustration, I started work at a photography company, I enjoyed my time there but it wasn't long before my creative side needed a project,
I began painting in my spare time.

Predominantly I work wet on wet in oils or acrylics on canvas, before I start a new piece I'll usually sketch on paper until I know almost exactly how it's going to look, I find painting these pieces calming and it translates into the work, occasionally I like to try something new though, with my most recent designs, inspired by dynamic movement and light, I enjoy using texture and metallic paints.

I never realised at the time of selling my first few paintings online in 2003 that it would allow me the opportunity to do something I love full-time, it makes me smile to think that hundreds of homes worldwide have my work on their walls and that recently my paintings have featured on an ITV 1 drama and on Channel 4's Location, Location, Location.
